A LOCATION STUDY FOR A SYSTEM OF V/STOL AIRPORTS IN THE BOSTON METROPOLITAN AREA
The problem involved the setting up of a series of heliports within the metropolitan area of Boston in such a way that the total access time to the heliports would be minimized. The method used was called the OUt of-Kilter Method for Minimal-Cost Flow Problems.' A road network of the area, containing link travel times, was obtained and various heliport configurations were superimposed on this network. The average ground travel times were weighted accoring to the populatons of the various zones into which the area was divided. The results indicated that a downtown city center terminal seemed to unnecessary because of the close proximity of Logan Airport.
