EVALUATING THE NOISES OF TRANSPORTATION
There are a number of scales for evaluating noises, several of which have been selected by special interest groups to rank noises of a particular type of transportation vehicle. Each has its particular merits and each has its proponents, but none has been proven to be clearly superior. It was felt that a meeting at which the relative merits of these various rating scales could be discussed openly by their respective proponents would serve a useful purpose. Hopefully, a unified noise rating scale for all transportation sources would be selected, but at least, a better understanding of the magnitude of the problem would be obtained.
