Critical Issues in the Trucking Industry – 2024
The 2024 American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) survey of trucking industry critical issues was conducted August 26, 2024 through September 27, 2024. Twenty-six critical issues were presented to over 3,700 respondents who ranked their top three most critical issues and their top three preferred strategies for addressing said issues. Top issues for 2024 include: the economy, lack of truck parking, lawsuit abuse reform, insurance availability and cost, and driver compensation. Each issue is reviewed along with the three highest ranked mitigation strategies. Similar to 2023's concerns, the economy was the top concern and a lack of available truck parking remained the second-ranked issue. A new issue in 2023, zero-emission vehicles, which ranked 10th in 2023, rose to 6th overall in this year's rankings. Previous rankings from 2015 through 2023 are provided for comparison.
