Documenting the Now: Building Tools and a Community for Social Media Archiving [video]
University of California, Riverside Archivist Bergis Jules presents an overview of the “Document the Now” project. Funded in December 2015 by the Mellon Foundation, this project was started because Michael Brown was killed in Ferguson, Missouri. Watching the events unfold on social media presented an opportunity to think about archiving in that space. The project aims to address ethics, rights, and privacy issues around collection, preservation, and access to social media data. Jules also discusses developing a community around social media archiving.
