IN ADDITION TO THE RESEARCH ON SAFETY STRUCTURES ON ROAD SHOULDERS AND CENTRAL RESERVES, RESEARCH HAS BEEN CARRIED OUT ON SAFETY STRUCTURES FOR ENGINEERING WORKS ON SOFT SOILS, AND ON CRASH BARRIERS, BRIDGES, LIGHTING POLES AND PARAPETS. REQUIREMENTS WITH WHICH ROAD SAFETY STRUCTURES MUST COMPLY ARE DISCUSSED. A DESCRIPTION IS GIVEN OF IMPACT TESTS ON OBSTACLES (ALUMINIUM AND STEEL LIGHTING POLES) AND ON SAFETY DRUMS OF THE FITCH-BARRIER TYPE.
