CONCRETE PAVEMENT WITH CONTINUOUS REINFORCEMENT AND ELASTIC JOINTS, A THEORETICAL STUDY OF AND PRACTICAL EXPERIENCES ON TEST ROADS.
BETONGBELAGGNING MED KONTINUERLIG ARMERING OCH FJADRANDE FOGAR
The author summarizes the articles published in Cement och Betong No. 1-3, 1967, and gives details of the experimental section used for the tests: the pavement is continuously reinforced with smooth rods, which are placed in the centre of the cross section. Below the joint opening the reinforcement is coated with asphalt over a given length so that the stresses in the steel are contained within the yield limit, the concrete tensile strains remain at a tolerable level and the joint opening can absorb the shearin forces. Shearing forces are also absorbed by the reinforcement. The joints open when the concrete is subject to shrinkage by means of a hardened wood fibre plate placed 1/3 of the way down in the concrete. It also protects the joint and keeps it tight when it swells from moisture.
