Research on decision-making technology of pavement maintenance based on long-term pavement performance observation for 15 years

Long-term pavement performance observation data is of great significance for pavement maintenance decision-making research. Based on the continuous 15-year and accumulated 239,000 kilometers of pavement condition observation data in a certain province of China, this paper conducts research on pavement maintenance decision-making techniques. In accordance with the concept of pavement asset management, a big data collection and processing system is constructed for pavement condition data with the same source and structure. Unified detection standards, detection equipment, and evaluation criteria are used for the collection and evaluation of pavement condition data. Based on the big data of the road network, statistical analysis is conducted on the variation patterns of pavement condition in road segments rated as Excellent and Good Excellent and Good road segments by constructing a pavement condition transfer model. Taking into account the characteristics of Chinese pavement structures, the concept of pavement routine maintenance ratio (RMR) is proposed to evaluate the effectiveness of pavement minor repairs and maintenance. The relationship between the ability to maintain pavement condition in Excellent and Good and RMR of Excellent and Good road segments is also studied. The study shows that through timely pavement minor repairs and maintenance, this province maintains RMR of over 80% for Excellent and Good road segments. The ability to maintain pavement condition in Excellent and Good can exceed 95%, effectively slowing down the rate of pavement deterioration.
