DRAG REDUCTION OF FLAT PLATES WITH SURFACE ROUGHNESS
The effect on drag reduction of the surface roughness of flat plates was studied. The plates are considered first to be moving in homogeneous polymer solutions and next to be ejecting polymers. It is shown that when the roughness is small relative to the thickness of the viscous sublayer near a smooth surface, the effect of the roughness is also small and can be neglected, whereas larger roughness reduces the effect of the polymers drastically.
