TR News Celebrates 60 Years
In February 1963, Fred Burggraf, then the director of the Highway Research Board, along with staff members Herbert Orland and Earle Jackson produced the first in a new publication series called Highway Research News (HR News). Three hundred and forty-eight issues later, there are many changes, including an enhanced scope and new name for the Highway Research Board, known since 1974 as the Transportation Research Board. When the Highway Research Board became the Transportation Research Board, HR News became what the magazine is called today - TR News. This article looks at how TR News has evolved over time while maintaining its purpose, sharing timely and interesting information with transportation professionals.
