Workshop Synthesis: Innovations in travel survey collection to support long distance and tourism travel analyses

As researchers and practitioners seek to better understand and proactively plan for long-distance travel demand, they need data that characterizes the breadth and depth of long-distance travel decisions. In this workshop, the authors reviewed work from five presentations to draft guidance for integrating these sources to support travel analyses. The workshop specifically considered (a) what data is needed for long distance and tourism travel analyses (including traveler profiles, trip characteristics, external travel, visitor travel, destination choices, mode choices, environmental impacts, economics, etc.), (b) the most appropriate methods for capturing this data, and (c) how to best integrate these different methods.
