Control Technology Improvements for Flywheel Energy Storage System Controller and Motor [supporting dataset]
This is three sets of metadata: (1) Software that corrects an error in the programming and noise performance of the encoder that was part of Year 4 metadata and final report. This error gave a wrong count of position numbers in real time. The authors determined the cause of this error. Implementation is described in this metadata file. Evidence and oscillographs are shown to identify the problem and to prove it is solved. Solution is described. (2) A hardware substitute for the Hallbach Array was designed. This gives stability to the rotor while the authors are prototyping axes one after another. It is difficult to do all six axes at the same time but axes can be designed and built step by step one at a time. This provides stability in the vertical axis (z‐axis), allowing prototyping to occur in the other axes. Complete drawings for this equipment are contained in this metadata file. (3) The authors rewound the rotor. These photos show the reasons for rewinding, a burnt coil #6 of 24 coils. At the end of the project, the rewind was underway. (2023-06-30)
