Accelerated multiscale and multiphysics modelling tools for battery cell manufacturing improvement
The trend towards sustainable mobility has brought with it an increase in demand for EV (electric vehicle batteries). Because of this demand there is a market for battery cell components in the EU (European Union) industry. This article discusses the DEFACTO (Battery Design and manuFACTuring Optimization through multi physic modelling) project. The DEFACTO project is a multiphysic and multiscale modelling tool used to improve the understanding of cell material behavior, reduce the time and economic resources for battery cell manufacturing, and facilitate new high capacity and high voltage Li-ion cell generation 3b batteries. This article presents the following objectives of DEFACTO: generate a software tool, optimize the design of a cell, reduce the number of experiments in the cell development phase, allow for a more standardization of measurement procedures, and create new market opportunities. These objects lend to the sustainability of EV batteries and how they are manufactured.
