Impact Assessment of Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems: Andalusian Mediterranean Pilot

Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) are an innovative range of technologies focus on the communication between systems -whether it is a vehicle communicating with another vehicle, with the infrastructure, or with other C-ITS systems. Today, C-ITS deployment is taking place in European countries through the C-Roads Platform. This study aims to obtain, through a field operational trial, the impacts arising from the deployment of six C-ITS Day 1 services taking as a case study the Andalusian Mediterranean pilot of the C-ROADS Spain project. To that end, a set of key performance indicators have been defined covering safety, traffic efficiency and environmental areas. The study provides experience to test the technology first-hand and support other evaluators and road operators aiming to assess similar C-ITS implementations in order to promote a wide deployment of such services.
