Exploring Consumer Preferences for Shared Mobility Services in the Big Cities of Europe – Socio-Economic and Sustainability Concerns in the Era of COVID-19
This article reports on a study of consumer preferences for shared mobility services. The authors use a selection of 35 large European cities as case studies, emphasizing the potential of shared mobility services to shift consumption models towards a more sustainable approach. The authors also considered the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the development of the sharing economy. Topics include: population density and the degree of sustainable development; consumer factors such as age, gender, nationality and characteristics of the consumer digital profile; the transportation infrastructure in each European city considered, including degree of urbanization and level of wellbeing; and the impact of COVID-19 on shared mobility services. The authors conclude with a discussion of the impact of gross domestic product (GDP) on the behavior of different age groups in each of the cities; they found divergent behavior in different cities closely tied to economic factors.
