AUTOMATIC TRAIN CONTROL AND COMMUNICATIONS FOR WASHINGTON METRO
Details are given of the Automatic Train Control System (ATC) which in addition to controlling the movement of the individual train will also include the ability to adjust multitrain relationships as well. It is comprised of 3 subsystems: Automatic Train Protection, Automatic Train Operation and Automatic Train Supervision (ATS). The ATS system is made up of a computer complex, a display system and a supervisory control system. The ATS also includes an Automatic Car Identification System. The significant aspects are discussed of many additional communication facilities. This includes the VIPCOM PCM (pulse-code-modulated) T-1 carrier distribution equipment, Mobile Radio System, the line applique, the Public Address System, the Closed Circuit Television System, Fire and Intrusion System, and the Technical Control Facility.
