METHODOLOGY FOR DELINEATING MUDSLIDE HAZARD AREAS

This report was prepared to describe how best to identify and classify mudslide-prone areas. Accrediting or modifying the methodology as it is used in the day-to-day operations of the National Flood Insurance Program is also considered. The recommended methodology for conducting mudslide hazard studies is presented in the form of statements of tasks to be performed by engineering/geologic organizations (consultants). These tasks include determining the general scope of the community landslide problem, preparing landslide factor and study unit maps, indicating known prior or potential landslides, making field reconnaissance and analysis, categorizing hazard, and preparing final mudslide study map. "Landslide/Mudslide Literature Review and Bibliography" is an extensive state-of-the-art review presented as an appendix, containing 319 pertinent references.
