PARTIALLY PRESTRESSED CONCRETE
The findings are summarized of a literature survey of aspects of cracking and deformation of prestressed members. The problem of fatigue is explored, and current methods of design are discussed. A theoretical analysis was made of the fictitious tensile stress approach to designing for crack widths, and a design example was carried out to illustrate the application of partial prestressing to double-tee beams. The concept of partial prestressing is discussed and details are given of the behavior of partially prestressed beams. The investigation of the relationship between fictious tensile stress and steel stress for different sections is detailed, and the use of partial prestressing in the reduction of double-tees is reviewed. The results of the research are discussed, and recommendations are made for the inclusion of partial prestressing in New Zealand code SP-32 for prestressed concrete.
