TESTING OF SIGNS AND THEIR SUPPORT AGAINST WIND FORCES AND VIBRATIONS
The objective of this study is the establishment of an optimum design criteria for single posted signs, including their related hardware and attachment methods, to withstand fatigue and high stress damage resulting from wind flutter and gusting. The investigation consists of two basic parts: (1) an experimental study of the dynamic loading effects that result from wind induced vibration of the signs, and (2) an establishment of the fatigue strength of the various sign systems to resist this loading by mechanical fatigue testing on a servo-controlled dynamic testing system.
