STRUCTURAL APPLICATIONS OF EPOXY RESIN ADHESIVES
This report is concerned with the use of epoxy resins in civil engineering. Basic properties of epoxy resins, with special references to the effect of curing in water and long-term creep, are presented. The use of epoxy resins for joints in concrete shows that joints stronger than the concrete can be made but that the presence of moisture on the joint surface and improper surface preparation might lead to a serious loss of strength. Flexural beam tests and composite prism tests were carried out to investigate these factors. Pull-out tests were conducted to study the load-slip relationship of a reinforcing bar bonded to a concrete specimen with epoxy resins. A review of practical applications and the potential developments of epoxy materials in civil engineering is presented.
