FIELD STUDY OF A CURVED BOX BEAM BRIDGE
An experimental investigation was conducted on a curved box beam bridge near Baltimore, Maryland. The test was designed to examine both dead and live load responses of the bridge. The experimental results from these tests were then compared to the results obtained by an anlaytical solution and to the values expected from the designer's evaluation. The correlation of the analytical and experimental results establishes the effectiveness of and confidence in the analytical method in predicting the behavior of a curved box girder bridge. A comparison of the design predictions and the measured responses of the bridge indicates the design is generally conservative and in a few areas suggests a possible relaxation of the conservative assumptions. /FHWA/
