THE EFFECT OF DOWEL-BAR MISALINEMENT IN THE JOINTS OF CONCRETE ROADS
A series of tests to examine the effects of misalinement of dowel-bars in the joints of concrete roads is described in this report; the effects are compared theoretically with the effect of traffic loading. Measurements of the degree of misalinement of dowel-bars in the joints of five roads showed large variations from the specified alinement although a reasonable overall standard of construction and subsequent performance of the pavement was achieved. As a result, a relaxation of the requirements for the alinement of dowel-bars is recommended; a specified percentage of tolerance is also recommended. /Author/TRRL/
