Proposal of Driving Assistance by Accelerator Pedal Control for Energy Balance Improvement

Improving the energy balance of electric vehicles (battery electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles) is one of the major issues for their widespread use. In this paper, the authors propose a mechanism that appropriately utilizes the coasting state that allows the vehicle to move far away without using any energy. The mechanism is not a gear shift to the neutral range but an accelerator pedal operation support. For the purpose of reducing unnecessary accelerator pedal work, the authors have experimentally verified the enhancement of functionality that gives vibration feedback to driver of a vehicle according to the position of the accelerator pedal and traction battery power.
