Traffic Safety Facts 2021 Data: Young Drivers
In 2021 there were 2,116 young drivers who died in traffic crashes, an 11-percent increase from 1,899 in 2020. The number of licensed young drivers increased by 1.3 percent from 2020 to 2021. In 2021 there were an estimated 203,256 young drivers injured in traffic crashes, an increase of 7 percent from 189,959 in 2020. Young drivers accounted for 8.4 percent of all drivers involved in fatal traffic crashes in 2021. However, young drivers were only 5.0 percent of all licensed drivers in 2021.
