High contents of steel slag in the road concrete: Hydration mechanism, mechanical property and durability performance
In this paper, steel slag (SS) was used as the cementitious material with ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) and desulfurized gypsum (DG) and recycled as coarse aggregate in concrete. The optimal mix ratio of cementitious material was 20% SS, 62% GGBS and 18% DG. The hydration products were AFt and C-S-H gel. When SS was instead of gravel for 50%, the compressive strength was increased by 22.71%. The volume shrinkage at 90 days and 28 d-carbonization depth decreased by 54.2% and 20.33% respectively. The chloride ion penetration resistance reached Q-V and the abrasion resistance was improved by nearly 19.58%.
