STUDY OF THE SHEARING STRENGTH OF COARSE MATERIALS
ETUDE DE LA RESISTANCE AU CISAILLEMENT DES MATERIAUX GROSSIERS
This bibliographic study shows the relation between the development of the study of the shear strength of coarse materials and that of earth dams. Various methods of determining shearing strength are discussed together with the factors influencing it: factors related to the type of apparatus used, factors related to the test procedure, and factors related to the type of material studied. An attempt is made to outline the principles on which to base the study of shear strength together with values which can be expected for each type of material. /IRRD/
