NEW MEXICO SPEED STUDY 1973-1974

In addition to its biennial speed studies on rural, interstate highways, the New Mexico State Highway Department did an additional speed study in April 1974, at the time of the "energy crisis", when the speed limit was reduced to 55 mph. Results show that average speeds at this time were the lowest in 17 years. This report includes tables which show the average speeds of all vehicle types, and graphs which show the trend in speeds.
