BUS PRIORITY EXPERIMENT ON TEST TRACK-ORGANISATIONAL ASPECTS
THE REPORT DESCRIBES THE PLANNING AND ORGANISATION OF A FULL-SCALE BUS PRIORITY EXPERIMENT CONDUCTED ON THE TRRL TEST TRACK. ABOUT 160 PRIVATE CARS AND 40 LONDON TRANSPORT DOUBLE-DECK BUSES WERE HIRED FOR THE TESTS WHICH LASTED 4 DAYS. A SIGNAL-CONTROLLED CROSS-ROADS WAS LAID OUT USING TEMPORARY KERBING AND ROAD MARKINGS. METHODS OF TRAFFIC CONTROL, ORGANISATION OF STAFF AND COMMUNICATIONS ARE DISCUSSED AND THE TECHNICAL SERVICES AND ITEMS OF EQUIPMENT THAT WERE REQUIRED ARE LISTED. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE WHICH MAY ACT AS A GUIDE FOR THE PLANNING OF FUTURE LARGE-SCALE TRAFFIC EXPERIMENTS OF THIS TYPE. (A)
