NON-LINEAR BEHAVIOUR OF FRAMES AND SLABS

The methods in use at the LNEC for studying non-linear behaviour in reinforced concrete structures, particularly frames and slabs, are described. The aim of this paper is to improve knowledge on these types of structures, with a view to quantifying safety not only against collapse but also against deformation and cracking. Geometric non-linearity and how to study it by finite element methods are dealt with in chapter 1. Physical Non-Lineraity and the Derivation of General Stress-Strain Relatives for Reinforced concrete are described in chapter II. The physically and geometrically non-linear behaviour of reinforced concrete simple framed structures in studied in chapter III. In chapter IV the results of tests on reinforced concrete slabs carried out in cooperation with the University of Liege are presented, and compared with analytical results based on finite element programs especially prepared for the purpose.
