THE CORRELATION OF RUTTING AND CREEP TESTS ON ASPHALT MIXES
The rutting of asphalt mixes under a wheel rolling in a signle path has been investigated in laboratory tests in order to develop methods for mix evaluation and design that have a sound engineering basis. The results of the rutting tests have been alanysed in a manner that allows them to be compared directly with the results of creep tests carried out under constant-load uniaxial compression conditions. This had been done for a variety of mixes and the comparison shows that the deformation behaviour is the same in each case and also that the but depth at any stage during these laboratory rutting tests can be estimated from the creep data. Samples of asphalt from the wearing and binder courses of a rutted road are shown to have creep properties which accord with the deformation that occurred. /Author/
