A Trail for Everyone: Active Transport in State Parks
This article highlights active transportation, trail networks, and partnerships at Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri State Parks. Several communities along these park trails are planning for and developing their own trail linkages to accommodate their active transportation needs. Federal funding programs, such as the Transportation Alternatives Program and Recreational Trails Program, provide crucial financial assistance for trail construction and linkage. Trail benefits include business development, increased tourism spending, health-related benefits, and an increase in nearby home values.
