THE FOUNDATION OF THE FAROE BRIDGES
FAROEBROERNES FUNDERING
The aim of the article is to describe the foundation of two Danish bridges for the Motor Road E4. The length is 1,6 and 1,7 km respectively, and the water depth varies from 3 to 28 m. The planning and the three main phases of the foundation work are described: bridge abutments founded on driven concrete piles, piles founded directly and piles founded on driven steel piles. The ground water lowering and the tests of the bearing capacity are also described. (TRRL)
