THE TECHNOLOGY OF TRACTION CURRENT SUPPLY AS A COMPONENT OF THE MODERN WHEEL/RAIL SYSTEM
The development of the wheel/rail system because associated at a very early stage with considerations of electric rail traction and hence also with electrical energy supply. The main components of the traction current supply system are the production and distributing equipment, the sub-stations, the overhead lines and the return current system. Increasing demands on a modern and efficient wheel/rail system also mean more exacting requirements in the technology of the traction current system. Developments in electrical engineering have always made it prossible to achieve the right answers. It can also be said that the power limits of electric rail traction have not yet been reached, so that it will be possible in the future to achieve still higher powers by utilizing new findings in basic research and applying these to practical development tasks.
