POWER ELECTRONICS PROPULSION SYSTEMS FOR ENERGY-SAVING AUTOMOTIVE VEHICLES
Today greater and greater demands are being placed on the automotive industry not only for safety, comfort, reliability, flexibility, durability and mobility, but also for energy saving, particularly liquid fuel economy of all automotive vehicles. From around 1980 pure electric and hybrid electric (HE) automotive vehicles for normal road and off-road traffic have been the most important products in the very advanced propulsion (VAP) field. As far as propulsion dynamotors and dynamotorized wheels are concerned, the greatest interest has been shown in very advanced power electronics propulsion systems (PEPSs) for energy-saving automotive vehicles (ESAVs) and this paper concentrates on such propulsion systems.
