WHEN THE COLD WIND BLOWS
Air conditioning systems for mass transit vehicles are far from standardized. This directory of manufactuters and their systems displays the diversity which bus manufacturers require in terms of vehicle engine driven vs sub-engine systems, mounting locations of components, and ducting methods. With few exceptions, U.S. air conditioner manufacturers are designing systems that fit specific needs of equipment builders or transit agencies. APTA finds that more than 80 percent of transit buses now have air conditioning. Systems described are those typical for 40-ft bus applications with one exception, a manufacturer that produces only for transit cars. The directory lists 8 manufacturers.
