VIENNA PLANS FOR 90S
By 1992 the three existing subway lines in the Austrian capital will virtually double in length to 56 km with extensions and two new routes. Vienna's city works authority is responsible for public transit with 50 percent of the cost being borne by the federal government. A standard fare system has been introduced, permiting the same ticket to be used on all modes. A new car fleet is being developed with uses asynchronous three-phase traction motors with water cooling and sealed electrical power conditioning. Vandalism is a particular problem for the system at the present time.
