THE ENERGY CRISIS TODAY: A PERSPECTIVE
The author reviews what is known about energy and its present shortage, and speculates on the general outlook for solving the problem--the role transportation must play being emphasized. He indicates that the energy crisis in the United State has shifted from one of shortages to one of cost and concern. In the medium and long-term, he contends, the energy picture will be much brighter than it is in the short range. Adjustments to energy conservation, stockpiling fuel in all of its common forms, substitution of other energy sources for oil, and acceptance of reasonable regulations that affect the efficient use of energy, all point to alternatives offering relief in the future--provided that consumers can adjust to large increases in the cost of energy.
