SHOPPING IN THE INNER CITY

WINKELEN IN DE BINNENSTAD

A report is presented on a comparative study in The Hague. On a parking lot and adjacent tram/bus stops interviews were carried out; the parking lot is to be removed before long. The results show that the shopping motorists form a very special category when compared with public transport passengers; it is also assumed that they differ from the average motorist parking elsewhere in the city. They are very important for expenditure in the district, and closure of the parking lot without compensation elsewhere could well lead to adverse effects, in particular because quite a number would try and find another place for shopping.
