SOME PROBLEMS WITH LIMIT STATES DESIGN
Views differ on the meaning of limit states design, and three distinct definitions are gleaned from the literature. It is shown how there are problems in proceeding in the face of lack of data. In particular the use of long return period, which must be based on little data, is queried, as is the possible demise of the use of this term. This paper covers no new ground, and quotes what the author has found to be come thought provoking comments of others. (Author/TRRL)
