PARKING STANDARDS FOR CENTRAL AREAS
PARKEERNORMEN VOOR CENTRUMGEBIEDEN
Based on an extensive literature survey conclusions are drawn on the use of parking regulations in central areas. The final conclusion is that this method has too static or partial a character to enable the need for parking to be estimated. Instead, an alternative solution is proposed. If the central area should keep its function, then the traffic amenities to the centre, parking provisions included, should be sufficient at least for the number of visitors to the centre. Research should be done on (1) the number of visitors which are in the centre at the same time and (2) the characteristics of the visitors to the centre. For the latter the important factors are the aim of the visit, destination, transport used, origin and number of people coming together to the centre. (TRRL)
