CURING PRETENSIONED CONCRETE AT HIGH TEMPERATURE
Expressions are derived for calculating the additional loss of prestress to be expected in pretensioned units when the concrete is cured at high temperature. Examples given for a typical range of conditions show that the additional loss of prestress is not generally affected by the existence of bond during the rise in temperature, whether the whole stressing bed or only the concrete unit is heated. The additional loss of prestress is shown to be directly dependent on the amount of the rise in temperature and the coefficient of linear thermal expansion of the concrete. Under average conditions an additional loss of prestress of approximately 1 per cent for each 6 degrees C rise in temperature may be expected.
