TAXICO OPERATOR GOES 100 PERCENT PROPANE
The Safeway Cab Company of Longview, Texas, converted its vehicles to propane four and a half years ago and was able to recover its inital $10000 investment in 18 months from the fuel savings. While propane fuel economy is 15 percent less thaan with gasoline, propane is 42 percent cheaper for an actual savings of 27 percent. Other savings have been resized as well. The cabs have doubled their mileage between oil changes, from 6000 miles to 1200 miles. Mileage between engine tuneups has increased from 15000 to between 25000 and 30000. Service life of the engines is expected to be between 180000 and 200000 miles.
