AUTOMATIC RECORDING OF AXLELOADS AND CLASSIFICATION OF VEHICLES IN DENMARK

From 1967 the National Road Laboratory has continuously recorded axle loads in Denmark, from 1972 at 2 places, 1 on E4 and 1 on E3. For this purpose several different kinds of recording equipment have been used, and several types of scales have been tested. During the period several test runs have been carried out in order to compare the results obtained regarding the precision of the recording of static axle loads. A good correlation was indicated. In 1980 the axle load system in the roadway network began to be extended to the whole country at 10 sites where two pieces of new equipment, TARA (Telephone Automatic Registration of Axle Load) and CLARE (Classification and Axle Load Registration Equipment), are moved from site to site periodically. The new site and the new equipment have been developed to make it possible to classify the passing vehicles according to EEC regulation R1108/70. (TRRL)
