ABIDJAN--TRANSIT SHOWCASE FOR AFRICA
Abidjan, Ivory Coast, is served by a government-owned bus system augmented by some waterborne services. Ultimately the mainline railway which traverses the city may institute commuter service. Societe des Transports Abidjanais (SOTRA) was created as a monopoly in 1960 by the government and French-owned Renault after Ivory Coast independence. SOTRA has over 50 routes covering 500 miles. Most routes start from one of 7 bus stations throughout Abidjan. Details on operation, maintenance and finances are included.
