ANALYTICAL STUDY OF FATAL ACCIDENTS ON SUPER HIGHWAY. 1. GENERAL PICTURE
A review is presented of the fatal accidents occuring on the highway between Karachi and Hyderabad, Pakistan, between 1972-1982. On the average every year 34 fatal accidents occur on this highway killing 48 persons and severly injuring 46 persons. This shows that for every one fatal accident one person is killed and one person injured. The fatal accident rate is 1.6 accidents per million vehicle-kilometres. The accident rates after the sunset exceeds those by day time. However, no weekdays or monthly variation in the proportion of fatal accidents is discernable on the Super Highway. There are at least three high accident locations on the Super Highway where two or more fatal accidents occur every year. (Author)
