LABORATORY EQUIPMENT FOR FROST HEAVE STUDIES. PART 3 INFLUENCE OF FREEZING RATE
LABORATORIEUTRUSTNING FOER TJAELLYFTNINGSSTUDIER. DEL 3 INVERKAN AV FRYSHASTIGHETEN
A large number of freezing tests have been performed with an apparatus developed at VTI. This paper reviews the aspects of different heat flows extracted in separate tests. This difference might cause a lack in reliability. Some soils are extremely sensitive to the rate of extracted heat flow, when low flow rates are applied. This sensitivity will be reduced with higher flow rates. Thus it seems to be no restriction in reducing the freezing time by increasing the heat flow, i.e., With the VTI-apparatus. (Author/TRRL)
