EFFECT OF THE NUMBER AND POSITION OF SIMULTANEOUSLY PRESENTED TRAFFIC SIGNS ON THE EFFICIENCY OF THEIR PERCEPTION

UTJECAJ BROJA I POLOZAJA SIMULTANO PREZENTIRANIH PROMETNIH ZNAKOVA NA EFIKASNOST NJIHOVA ZAMJECIVANJA

As many traffic signs along the roads are often found grouped in one place, it would be useful to know: the number of simultaneously displayed signs an average driver is able to notice, decode and remember within the comparatively short time at his disposal, and the best position of a sign in a group of several simultaneously displayed signs as regards recognition. To find an answer to these questions, a tachystoscopic study was carried out on a random sample of 60 drivers. An analysis of the replies obtained suggests that possibilities of recognizing these signs are very limited, so much so that, as a rule, not more than two signs ought to be siimultaneously displayed too drivers.
