TSA SURVEY REVEALS CONFLICTING STATE/LOCAL VIEWS
TranSafety's recent reader survey revealed some divergent views between state and local engineers on how standards and agency actions affect negligence suits. Out of 60 total responses, 26% were from state engineers and risk managers. While 88% of local engineers said they supported more flexible highway standards, only 64% of state-level respondents supported such standard changes. Further, when asked whether agencies should increase, decrease or make no change in their documentation and prioritization of hazardous locations, most local respondents felt that documentation should decrease to defend litigation, while state respondents nearly unanimously agreed that documentation should increase both for safety's sake as well as for improving legal defense.
