CONSTRUCTION GUIDE: SULPHATE RESISTANCE OF PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE
The amount and type of sulphate present in the soil of certain localities may cause slow deterioration of concrete unless appropriate precautions are taken. In order to assess any required precautions at a given site, it is first necessary to classify it in terms of the sulphate concentration present. In this publication a first table shows how the available tests are listed to place a site in one of the five classes described in BRE (Building Research Establishment) Digest 250. A second shows the precautions appropriate to each class. (TRRL)
