BOTSWANA ROAD STRENGTHENING PROGRAMME
This paper deals with the initial stages of a pavement strengthening programme in Botswana. The paper briefly describes Botswana, and the development of the road network in the country. The need for the pavement strengthening programme, designed to study the older sections of the network, and the objectives of the project are outlined. The methodology, conduct and findings of that part of the study related to the evaluation of the existing pavement are discussed. Dynamic penetration (DCP) tests were carried out at 200 m intereals throughout the network. A relationship has been developed between soaked and unsoaked CBR values for the materials encountered. The appropriate moisture condition for the pavement evaluation is discussed. (TRRL)
