PROCEEDINGS OF THE 1984 BUS MAINTENANCE PRODUCTIVITY WORKSHOP
The Workshop, which included 11 sessions, gave bus maintenance managers an opportunity to exchange information about problems and solutions, as well as indicating to UMTA the direction of future research and technical assistance while also rating the effectiveness of such previous UMTA efforts. Surveys of participants yielded data indicating the priorities of major issues. Sessions topics included: Modifications to air conditioners; engines and transmissions; information systems, contracts and warranties; fuels, lubricants and preventive maintenance; suspensions, tires and wheels; brakes; mechanic training and diagnostic aids; electrical, lighting and starters; cleaning, shop tools and equipment; and miscellaneous. While certain of these hardware-related topics were given high priority by participants, the leading topics are of a general nature. These were refined by the steering committee for the conference as: (1) Establish a national bus maintenance council; (2) Publish a manual of standard bus maintenance practices; (3) Improve the information exchange network.
